Como usar a vírgula nas datas em inglês – Entenda inglês

Os Guias de estilo da língua inglesa apresentam opiniões diferentes sobre como usar vírgulas em uma data no formato mês-dia-ano (estilo americano) no meio de uma frase, mas a prática padrão em publicações dos Estados Unidos é colocar uma vírgula após o dia e outra após o ano.

Veja alguns exemplos:

• The vote on April 12, 2015, began with blasts and ended before nightfall.

• California held elections on May 10, 2008, and agreed on a coalition on December.

No formato de data “mês-ano”, não é necessário colocar a vírgula. Por exemplo:

• Starting in October 2012, the Health System will not hire employees who test positive for nicotine. 

• He was fired in June 1998 after six straight defeats

No estilo de datas britânico não se usa vírgulas. Veja:

Between Tuesday 30 July and Monday 8 August 2007 farmers will be asked to count the number of sheeps they own.

O mesmo acontece com o formato mês-ano. Por exemplo:

Profits for the year ending September 2011 was around £350,000 and is forecast to doble in the current financial year.
